Getting a disability rating updated through the Veterans Affairs office can be a long and frustrating process, often requiring months of gathering paperwork, medical records, and supporting statements. Each form and appointment takes time, follow-ups, and careful attention to detail, especially when records come from multiple providers.

This process can feel overwhelming, and for veterans like Alvina, it can span several years. Alvina, an Army veteran in her seventies, came to Dine Naazbaa Partnership initially in 2021 asking for help with getting her disability claim started, which was especially tough in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and life getting in the way.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.

Through the years, DNP has been able to check in with Alvina and help her in other aspects of life – delivering wood, repairs around her home, and a new hot water heater – but getting her disability paperwork completed still lingered.

By June 2025, Alvina, with the help of her sister and DNP, was able to submit her complete paperwork and medical records for her claim. Her years of hard work paid off in August 2025 when she learned her claim was approved with an 80% rating!

“Thank you Karen and Dine Naazbaa Partnership for getting me motivated to keep going,” Alvina shared with us.

The long wait, the paperwork, and the uncertainty are finally replaced with the reassurance that your service and sacrifices have been recognized. That approval doesn’t erase the challenges, but it does provide meaningful support and stability moving forward.
