Getting a disability rating updated through the Veterans Affairs office can be a long and frustrating process, often requiring months of gathering paperwork, medical records, and supporting statements. Each form and appointment takes time, follow-ups, and careful attention to detail, especially when records come from multiple providers. 

On October 17, 2025, Liam’s family reached out to DNP during a moment of uncertainty. Liam, a veteran preparing to return home after a hospital stay, needed a hospital bed to support his recovery. His wife, Sophia, contacted DNP alongside a family member, hoping to find help quickly.  

To celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Dine Naazbaa Partnership held it’s first annual Gathering of Warriors with Firebase Committee. This unique event offered a stand down style resource fair as well as a space for Navajo veterans to seek out traditional healing practices. Cassandra Morgan, Program Lead, and Karen Shirley, Case Coordinator, with DNP spent the better part of a year planning and organizing the event, though the event was cut short due to heavy rain, the two day

Bernice, a veteran from Wide Ruins, was carrying a heavy burden when she first connected with DNP program lead Cassandra, back in June. Her roof was falling apart, and every day she worried about how long her home would keep protecting her and her daughter. With limited income, the repairs felt out of reach, leaving her with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty. 

In June 2025, DNP was contacted by Cecilia Sandoval of National American Indian Veterans and Bob Dalpe of the Veterans Medical Leadership Council in Phoenix, AZ, who wished to donate toys. Together with DNP case coordinator Karen Shirley, they began planning how to deliver the toys to a veteran organization in Sawmill, AZ. 

Increasing a veteran’s disability rating can have a significant impact on their quality of life. A higher rating often means greater monthly compensation, access to enhanced healthcare through the VA, eligibility for additional benefits like housing assistance, educational support, and caregiver resources. It also provides recognition of the true extent of their service-connected conditions, offering both financial stability and emotional validation. 

Dine Naazbaa Partnership recently received a donation of firewood from Blue Ron’s Tree and Firewood Service to distribute to our local veterans and their families through the KinDahLichii Chapter Veterans Organization (KCVO)
