Her father, Robert, is an Army veteran and was in need of a motorized wheelchair due to no longer being able to walk or stand for long periods of time, which also left him stuck in the house and unable to connect with others.

A New Roof Over Their Heads
Bernice, a veteran from Wide Ruins, was carrying a heavy burden when she first connected with DNP program lead Cassandra, back in June. Her roof was falling apart, and every day she worried about how long her home would keep protecting her and her daughter. With limited income, the repairs felt out of reach, leaving her with an overwhelming sense of uncertainty.

In June 2025, DNP was contacted by Cecilia Sandoval of National American Indian Veterans and Bob Dalpe of the Veterans Medical Leadership Council in Phoenix, AZ, who wished to donate toys.
