In January 2025, A pre 9/11 Army veteran Mark and his wife, Irene, reached out to DNP for assistance with serious roofing issues at their home. Years of leaks had created ongoing challenges, and the couple needed help navigating resources that could address their housing concerns. As an aging and disabled veteran, Mark faced additional obstacles in managing home repairs and identifying the support available to him.
Recognizing the family's need, Breanna, in partnership with Karen from DNP and The AWP Network, began working closely with Mark and Irene. Over the following months, the team maintained regular communication with Mark and Irene, helping them complete applications, gather required documentation, and connect with community resources. Through consistent follow-up and advocacy, efforts were made to move their case forward and find assistance that could meet their most pressing needs.

Although roofing support remains a challenge due to limited funding availability, DNP never lost contact with the family's situation. As a result, the organization asked the family to identify their most immediate and essential household needs.
After discussing their current circumstances, Mark and Irene shared that a new exterior door and a microwave would make a significant difference in their daily lives. For Mark, who is both aging and disabled, purchasing and transporting needed household items on his own was difficult. These items were not simply conveniences; they were necessities that would improve the safety, functionality, and comfort of their home.
Thanks to the support of Red Feather Development Group, the request was approved. The veteran couple were able to obtain their new door and microwave from Home Depot, bringing much-needed relief and renewed optimism to the couple.
They were grateful for the assistance and appreciative of the organizations that remained committed to helping them throughout the process. DNP and AWP continue to search for roofing support for the family.
